Great eMail Subject Lines

Best Practices Tutorial

Sales Team,

Imagine how full your email inbox would be if you were a dealership GM.  In addition to keeping email content succinct, personal, and relevant, your challenge is to get that email opened.  That’s where a good subject line comes in.  Depending on the mail client (the software platform) that your recipient is viewing emails from, you’ll get as few as 8 and as many as 36 characters.  A good subject line is intended to get them to open the email.  You can appeal to their sense of humor or curiosity, keep it professional or break up their monotony with something that looks entertaining.  If they never open the email, it won’t matter how well it was crafted.  Still, keep in mind that your professionalism and character is on display.  You don’t want to write, “Open this email and get $20,000!”  Sure, it’s possible that they could get some great revenue from Recall Masters, but that subject line is misleading and actually appears as SPAM and could cause your emails to be filtered out – there is a balance.  I’ll keep updating this post to add new subject lines that I think are good and work for our team.  If you have any success with any of your own, share with me so that I can post them here.

Thanks,  Sean
